15 Sep 4 Reason Why Your Employees Should Be Your Top Priority!

When we relaunched our website and I shared the quote above I had some backlash and questioning from peers. They said, “Nikki, your clients should be your top priority, not your people!” I was adamant because I know that happy employees treat clients much better than miserable ones! In fact, here’s what I’ve learned about happy employees and how important it is to business!
1 - Higher enthusiasm to tackle challenges
Employees who genuinely enjoy the environment that they’re working in and the people they work with show up differently. When a challenge arises with a client or vendor, they approach it with much more positive enthusiasm and a commitment to resolve the issue. They are kinder with suppliers and more eager to please clients. They certainly don’t have the “not my problem” mentality.
In fact, they are willing to go the extra mile whole-heartedly for the client and drive to the shipping depot or get on the decorating machine to make a client happy. Happy team members truly care about keeping the client happy and, in turn, boosting client loyalty and retention.
2 - Happiness is contagious!
Happy team members spread positivity in the office, keeping everyone on their A-game! When you invest in the overall well-being and success of each person on the team and they feel that they are cared for on a deep level, they will exude joy and positivity. The result of this of course spreads in such a positive way. It keeps their peers on their toes and you see total ownership vs. a victim mentality.
You see employees fully engaged in their work and willing to step outside of their job role to come alongside their peers to support their growth and lighten their load. The contagion of happiness lifts everyone’s spirits and creates an atmosphere where everyone is striving for excellence.
3 - Happy employees are more courageous!
In a psychologically safe and happy environment, team members display more courage. They are willing to step outside of their comfort zone and learn new skills and try new tasks. They speak up more and are willing to collaborate or debate. They simply display more courage when they feel fulfilled and confident.
4 - Profits Soar!
It makes sense that happier employees will be more committed to doing a job well.

There is now growing evidence that when one’s employees are happy, organizations thrive. One study found that happy employees are up to 20% more productive than unhappy employees. When it comes to salespeople, happiness has an even greater impact, raising sales by 37%. (Dec 13, 2017, Forbes Magazine)
Ironically, when you put people before profits, profits soar! It makes sense that happier employees will be more committed to doing a job well. They will be more mindful and care about attention to detail, making fewer mistakes and taking pride in their work.
Do I believe that a person’s happiness hinges on their employer? No. I believe that people with the right attitude and fit for your organization will see that they are responsible for their own happiness. However, I do believe that an employer has the responsibility to create the best working environment possible to support an employee’s success and overall wellbeing!
Create happiness – it’s just good business!
