Goal Setting and Inspirational Swag

The New year provides a fresh start both personally and professionally! We can start with a new mindset anytime of year, however January seems to offer a renewed sense of hope and optimism.

Language matters!
While you’re thinking about your own goals or discussing your big goals with your team, use “I will” language. This replaces hoping language and also eliminates imposter syndrome if you’re uncomfortable saying “we have” or “I am”.  “I will” projects a future self you’re working towards.

Display your goals!
Keep your personal goals handy in your daily journal or on a sticky note so they are consistently present.  Your team and company goals should be communicated on a regular basis.  Here are some unique and inspirational promotional items that can be used to inspire and remind your team of the primary focus for the year.

Deadlines drive focus
Make sure you have a deadline for your goal. Create mini milestones throughout the year for your personal and professional goals and celebrate along the way. A target set without a deadline and strategic plan to get there is merely a wish. Keep goals at the forefront of your team’s mind. Here’s an idea for a sales incentive trip with a timer!  Employees working through gloomy winter nights will be inspired as they think of earning a trip to the beach once they reach their goal!

Measure your progress
Most people write out a goal and look back in reflection after several months or even the entire year. Check in daily – did you get closer or further from your goal? What can you do to accelerate or compress the time required to get to your goal faster? On a scale of 1-10 are you moving closer everyday? If not, what steps need to be taken to pivot? What new strategy needs to be implemented? Check in on a regular basis to ensure course-correction.

Focus on the why!
Why does it matter if you reach your personal goals? What does reaching your professional goal as a team mean to the organization and how is your team member directly impacted? Is the company able to do more philanthropic work as a result of reaching your goals? Will your team reach more financial targets personally? Will they break through limiting beliefs and build confidence? Come back to the why for inspiration when you’re feeling discouraged.

Celebrate the Journey!
A coach recently reminded me that aiming for a huge goal and missing it doesn’t make you a loser or a failure! Many people would rather set a small goal and reach it conservatively and play small than set an enormous goal that would blow their mind. If we fall short on a huge goal, we’ve leveled up at a minimum. Be sure to honour your commitment to your goal and celebrate your team’s commitment to excellence along the way. We’re here to help you as you celebrate your team’s milestones and massive achievements.

Cheering you along as you set out awesome goals for 2025!
