While working from home may be your normal, this is becoming the new norm for many people around the world. Here at Sigma we are all adjusting to working from home and we wanted to share a few tips on how to stay motivated while doing so.
Sticking to your routine will help ensure you stay motivated throughout your day and week. This will help keep a sense of normalcy while we are faced with the unknowns of COVID-19. Stick to your regular work hours and be sure to start and end your day on time.
When setting up your dedicated workspace at home make sure you have all the tools you need around you in order to be successful. Try and make it as comfortable and as ergonomic as possible. Try to choose a location in your house that is easy to walk away from at the end of the day so you can shut off and not continue to work after hours. If able, make it bright and welcoming.
When working from home it is easy to stay in those comfy pj’s all day, trust us when we say this. Make the effort to change your clothes shortly after waking up, this will be one of your first wins for the day and will make you feel like a new person. Try setting your clothes out for the week to make changing out of those pj’s as easy as possible.
While working from home can be lonely especially when you are used to being in the office with your work family. Make sure you are keeping connected.
Every morning at 9:00am we usually huddle as a group, working from home has not stopped this. We continue to connect with our team at 9:00am via Zoom and we have added an extra huddle at 2:00pm. We use this time to connect with each other to discuss different podcasts and motivational videos and to make sure everyone is doing ok. Don’t be afraid to reach out to your coworkers via text, email, phone call or by using FaceTime, Skype or Zoom to see how they are doing.
Make sure you stop and take a break during the day, take the time to step away from your computer screen. At work we are always making sure everyone is stopping to take a lunch and now is no different. Take your lunch, go for a walk and step outside for some fresh air.
While working from home we found it a lot easier to login earlier and logout later than our regular work hours as everything was easily accessible. Treat the day as if you were going into the office, make sure to logout of your email once you are done for the day and continue with your regular routine.
Whether that’s a good meal you’re going to make for supper or your virtual gym class, allow yourself to look forward to something every day. It will help keep you motivated to move on to the next day! We both look forward to working out at the end of the day and we have kept this up by using Zoom to have virtual workouts 🙂
